The Proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act: An Unduly Narrow and Incomplete Regulatory Approach
31 janv. 2024

CIPPIC today publishes its brief on the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), Part III of Bill C-27. The Act would create an unduly narrow and incomplete scheme for regulating artificial intelligence in Canada. The brief urges the Federal Government to consult broadly and to strengthen AIDA in several ways: by extending the Act to federal government institutions, including defence and security bodies; by making the AI and Data Commissioner fully independent; by widening the concepts of harm and biased output to reach groups and communities, not only individuals; and by prohibiting AI systems that pose unacceptable risks, as the European Union's AI Act does.
